The Shenandoa Herald reported on April 17, 1914 that a fire broke out on Sunday at the Murphy Opera House April 12, starting on the third floor where Unity Lodge No. 146 had its lodge room. There was no indication of how the fire was started, and the other floors of the building only sustained damage from water.
