Rev. Eugene West To Be Honored At Dinner Friday

The Men’s Bible Class of the First Baptist Church of Front Royal will hold its annual dinner at six o’clock tomorrow evening in the social room of the church in honor of its pastor, Rev. T. Eugene West, who will close his nineteen months pastorate in Front Royal on next Sunday.

A. Statton Hammock, president of the class, will have charge of the dinner program and H. H. Marlowe will have charge of the after-dinner, program. Representatives of the various organizations of Front Royal will participate in the program, as follows: the Town of Front Royal, Mayor B. J. Hillidge; the Chamber Commerce, L. B. Dutrow, secretary; the Polyhymnia-Euterpe Music Club, Trial Justice Walter G. Olmstead: Rotary Club, J. Gruver Hillidge; Boy Scouts, Johnnie Marchi; Retail Merchants Association, Thomas M. Kerns; Relief Fire Department, James H. Shiner; Warren County High School, Prof. H. C. Coe; Randolph-Macon Academy, Col. John C. Boggs; American Legion, A. B. Scott; Lions’ Club, William P. Herring; Virginia Federation of Music Clubs, Mrs. J. M. Boles, Strasburg; Blue Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter of Masons, P. M. Shirey; Odd Fellows, W. R. Thompson; Boys Club of the Baptist Church, A. F. Clarke, Jr.; Girls Club of the Baptist Church, Katherine Clem; Intermediate Boys Sunday School Class, Luther Clem; Alma Clayton West Class, Miss Bessie Manuel; Order of the Eastern Star, Mrs. Stuart C. Payne; Shenandoah Baptist Association, Dr. J. W. Brown, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Martinsburg, W. Va.; Shenandoah B. Y. P. U. Association, Dr. L. A. Parker, Berryville; Ministers of Front Royal. Rev. H. W. Shannon; Daily Vacation Bible School, Rev. R. B. Clagett: representatives of the organizations of the Baptist Church, Charles W. Burner.

The principal speaker will be Dr. Henry Alfred Porter of Charlottesville, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of that city, of which Rev. Mr. West will become associate pastor and director of religious education, on January 1.

Mrs. E. L. Grubbs and Mrs. Lottie V. Whitehurst will be vocal soloists, and other music will be provided by the Front Royal Glee Club and the Randolph-Macon Academy band. Elder A. L. Harrison will pronounce the benediction.

W. Bryan Rudacille is chairman of the committee of arrangements, and the officers of the Men’s Bible Class are: president, A. Statton Hammack; vice-president, Worthy C. Swartz; secretary, W. Bryan Rudacille; treasurer, R. L. Hockman, Jr.; and pianist, Charlotte Ann Dickinson. A. F. Clarke is the teacher of the class.

The class has elected the following officers for 1935: president, C. W. Burner; vice-president, T, C. Wood; secretary, Lee Potts; assistant-secretary, W. Bryan Rudacille; treasurer, B. H. Potts; pianist, Mrs. Lottie V. Whitehurst; teacher, H. H. Marlowe.

The Baptist Church has adopted the following resolutions unanimously:

“We, the members of the Front Royal Baptist Church, hold such love and high regard for our pastor, Rev. T. Eugene West, that we will not accept his resignation to go to Charlottesville, but we give him the privilege of going with the open invitation to return to us at any time he can come back, either as pastor or visitor.

“We authorize the selection of a committee to write an appropriate account of his work here with us, a copy of the same to be reported in our minutes, sent to the First Baptist Church, Charlottesville, and to the Religious Herald, printed in our local papers, and a copy given to Brother West.’’
