Deaths
The lodge suffered two deaths in 1934.
Walter C. Carter
September 2, 1886 to January 9, 1934
Brother Walter C. Carter was 47 when he had been driving home early in the morning. His automobile was struck by a train on Wednesday, January 10, 1934. His back or skull was fractured when he was thrown from his car, and death was thought to be instantaneous.
Walter was a business man, owned the large Skyline Orchard south of town, and co-owned a large grain and dairy farm on the North Fork of the Shenandoah. He was a director of the Citizens National Bank in Front Royal. As he was in the feed business on a large scale, he had several forage contracts with the U. S. Government.
Brother Walter was active in both the Blue Lodge and other Masonic bodies, including the Shrine. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 11th and interment was in the Hansbrough Lot in Prospect Cemetery.
