On November 26, 1945 the Northern Virginia Daily has an article about Richard Nelson Bell stating that he is a former member of the Two Rivers Chapter, Order of DeMolay in Front Royal.
Lawrence Meotord Shifflett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton A. Shifflett of Rt. 2, Strasburg and Richard Nelson Bell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett William Bell of Front Royal Virginia, enlisted in the Navy through Chief Mead at the Post Office in Winchester and are now at Camp Perry, Williamsburg, Va., for boot camp.
Shifflett and Bell both played on the Warren County High School football team this last season Shifflett playing fullback and Bell Wingback. In addition to playing on the football team three years and being co-captain of this years team, Shifflett played baseball and played on the Future Farmers of America Northern Federation basketball team last year which won the championship. He has a brother, Lloyd, who is a Corporal in the Army somewhere in Europe and another brother Rex, who is a sergeant in the army also in Europe. During this school year Lawrence was offered a scholarship in the William and Mary College and he plans on completing his high school credits in the service in order to be eligible for it when he gets out.
Bell played on the football, basketball and baseball teams at Warren County and was a senior this year. A member of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity and a former member of the Two Rivers Chapter, Order of DeMolay in Front Royal. Both Bell and Shifflett reported for boot camp November 9th.
