S. M. Boyd, Jr., Passes Away At Front Royal

Stephen Miller Boyd Jr., prominent Front Royal resident, died unexpectedly at his home on the John Marshall Highway late Monday afternoon, September 6.

At the time of Mr. Boyd’s death he was chairman of the Warren County Electoral Board. Active in community affairs, he had served as Warren County surveyor, was a member of the county’s first planning commission , a former chairman of the county school board and had been on the hospital’s board of managers. He served his church, the Front Royal Methodist, on its Board of Stewards.

Mr. Boyd was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, in 1916 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a veteran of World War I, a member and past master of Front Royal Lodge 146 AF & AM, and a member of the Front Royal Rotary Club.
