October 6, 1970
On October 6, 1970, The Daily Courier reported that a Unity Lodge member, Major Ronald G. McManus, was named as the assistant to Randolph-Macon Academy’s president. He had been commandant since 1963, and became the chairman of the English department since 1963.

FRONT ROYAL. Va. - Major Ronald G. McManus, commandant of the cadet corps at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, has been named assistant to the president at the academy. He assumed the post in September
A 1958 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Maj. McManus earned the MEd. degree from the University of Virginia. He has been commandant since 1966. He will remain as chairman of the English department, a position held since 1963, and continue to teach senior English.
"We are extremely fortunate that Major McManus has accepted this position." President Arvin S. Williams, said when making the announcement. "He is a man of high principles who brings the best possible qualities to the position one of which is strong leadership qualities in the affairs of the Academy"
Maj McManus has served on a number of faculty committees during his tenure at RMA, and has been Director of the Academy's Summer School since 1966. He is also advisor of the Randomac (school yearbook).
Prior to coming to RMA he served in the US Army. He is a member of Unity Lodge No. 146 AF & AM in Front Royal, the Front Royal United Methodist Church; and a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principles.
In 1968 he was selected as the Front Royal Jaycee's Outstanding Young Educator.
Major McManus, a native of Dunbar, Pa, is married to the former Patricia McKee, and they have two children.
