Brethren of Unity Lodge No.146 A.F.&A.M.,
I trust this message finds each of you and your family well. Saturday, October 12th we will celebrate Masonic Founders Day. The Masonic Home of Virginia (MAHOVA) is located on the grounds of the Grand Lodge of Virginia just outside the City of Richmond. Founded in 1890, the home operates through financial gifts and volunteer efforts. The primary mission is to embody the Masonic principle of care for others. In this unique community, traditions continue through the basic Masonic principles of love and care of family, neighbor, God and Country. These are the keystones of the Masonic Home of Virginia. This is the ONLY Masonic-related continuing care retirement community in Virginia and one of the few of its kind in our country.
MAHOVA welcomes any Virginia Mason age sixty-five (65) or older, or his wife or widow who has reached the age of sixty-two (62). For Masons living in Virginia who have been in the Fraternity for ten years and who may not be a member of a Virginia Lodge, simply affiliating with a Virginia Lodge will enable you to apply for residency in our Home. Of course, as a facility licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, applicants must meet certain health and medical guidelines. For additional information call toll-free, 1-800-262-4644, extension 77295 or you may contact our District 3 Masonic Home Ambassador, RW Brother Wayne Eugene Price at [Email Address Redacted] or call [Phone Number Redacted]. RW Wayne will be presenting the MAHOVA program at our October 2nd stated communication.
We will also be celebrating our Past Masters Night at our October stated. Unity Lodge is blessed to have 21 living Past Masters. From Worshipful Brother William Newton Wood in 1963 to Right Worshipful Scott Douglas Cabazolo in 2012 and many excellent Past Masters in between. Our Lodge Educational Talk for the night will be, “The Masonic Cable Tow.” I felt this talk to be appropriate for our Past Masters Night as they have each shouldered the responsibility to “rule and govern” their lodge. Although this obligation can be very satisfying, it comes with many challenges. We say that Freemasonry seeks to make good men better. It does that by recognizing that each of us has different needs and then showing them how the Fraternity can meet those needs and help us grow as individuals so that we are a credit to ourselves and our Lodge. It is important that the Master and Wardens, and each of us act as mentors to our brethren, especially the new brethren. This will do more than anything else to keep our brethren active, motivated, and maintain Peace and Harmony in the Lodge.
We all voluntary took on certain obligations when we become Master Masons. We promised to help, aid, and assist a Brother and we promised to be attentive to summonses sent from our Lodge and the Grand Lodge. Despite the uniformity of our obligations we are expected to only go to the length of our Cable Tow.
As always Brethren, let us Meet on the Level, Act by the Plum and Part upon the Square. This is our Lodge….Your Lodge. Be the change you wish to see in the world….it all begins where you were first made a Mason. Until we meet again brethren, may the God of Peace and Love delight to dwell with and bless you.
S & F,
Dennis Mark Haas
Worshipful Master
