Brethren,
This past week I had the opportunity to attend the DLC in Warrenton on March 15th with several Brothers from our Lodge as well as our District and had the pleasure to hear Most Worshipful William Edward Hershey, Jr. give a fantastic speech. He will soon begin his visitations and I urge you to make an attempt to attend one near you. His official visit for our District will be held on July 19th at the Blue Ridge Fire Department. This will be free to all who wish to attend due to donations from the respective District Lodges.
He spoke of the mailers which you should start receiving in the mail. Again I urge you to support the Grand Master’s efforts by contributing to this campaign. After the initial costs of the mailers, all funds received will be distributed between the various Masonic charities.
The topic of taking advantage of the Subordinate Lodges Officer’s Training (SLOT) was also discussed. This is not just a training for the presiding officers of the lodge, but for anyone who would like to attend. I encourage everyone to come out for this training if you are able. The next District training will be held in our lodge at a future date and time to be determined.
He also challenged us to review the ways in which we operate and attempt to make our meetings more interesting and the idea of attendance more attractive to our members. To this I say, Brethren, this is your Lodge not just mine. Please let me know what you want from your Lodge and I will endeavor to facilitate your wishes. Just as a church is not a building but rather the congregation, so is the Lodge not a structure, but rather the Brothers who swore an obligation to each other. I believe that we have a strong lodge which can only become stronger through friendship and fellowship.
