Message from the Master

Brethren,

To say that March was an interesting month would be an understatement but let us remember the good as well as the bad.

First and foremost, the good. The March program was perhaps the finest program that I have seen in quite a while. For those of you which did not have the opportunity to join us, let me paint for you the picture. March witnessed out Past Master night. We had many of the currently active Past Masters return and assume the officer positions. Most notably was Worshipful Bill Wood in the East and Worshipful Wes Hammock in the West. Combined they have over 100 years’ experience in Freemasonry and it certainly showed. I can say without a doubt, March 4th witnessed the best ritual that I have seen in quite a while. It was an honor to sit in Lodge and witness my two mentors in all their glory. We then went around the room and each of the Past Masters present regaled us with stories and lessons learned from their time in the East.

March also saw the return of the traveling gavel to Unity. I thank all the brothers who have been traveling this year and making a strong showing for Unity Lodge, both within our District as well as without. We will also be holding onto the traveling gavel for a bit longer than we had previously planned, which brings me to the bad.

As you all are aware, March has brought the COVID-19 virus to our Country, our Commonwealth and our Community. The Grand Master had properly determined to close all Lodge buildings and canceled all Masonic events until after April 30th after which he will reassess the current conditions. Although, this has been quite a blow to our Lodge and the appendant bodies which utilize our facilities, we will weather this storm together.

Now is the time to remember our obligations to one another. Now is the time to show the community what we as Freemasons are all about. Please check on your neighbor as if they were your family, because in the end they are. I know that others are far more eloquent than I, but I leave you with the thought of the “golden rule.” If we were to all follow this simple lesson, we can all weather any storm.

God Bless,

Charles
