Unity Masonic Lodge No. 146 in Front Royal, VA, welcomed a special guest on September 6, 2023, as Service Dogs of Virginia presented a remarkable program. Before the event, the lodge gathered for a communal dinner, setting the stage for an evening filled with inspiration and community spirit.
The lodge’s stated meeting commenced briefly, but the doors were soon opened to the public for a captivating presentation by Peggy Law, the Executive Director of Service Dogs of Virginia. With one of their trained service dogs by her side, Law engaged guests who had RSVP’d for the program, creating an atmosphere of learning and appreciation.
During the presentation, attendees witnessed the incredible capabilities of the service dog as it learned a new task—opening a zippered purse. This skill, designed to aid individuals with difficulty using their fingers to pinch and pull things, showcased the profound impact service animals can have on the lives of those in need.
The Masonic community, moved by the presentation, generously contributed to the cause. The hat circulated, and the Masons raised $400 in support of Service Dogs of Virginia, highlighting the lodge’s commitment to charitable endeavors and community service.
Following the presentation, Br. Bret Shifflett, Past Grand Patron, presented an enlightening program from the Order of The Eastern Star, adding another layer of depth to the evening’s events. Attendees gained insights into the Eastern Star’s principles and charitable activities, reinforcing the Masonic commitment to enlightenment, charity, and community.
