The spirit of giving resonated throughout Front Royal today as members of Unity Lodge No. 146, AF&AM, stepped up to ring the bell for the Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle campaign. This marks the first year the local Masons have taken on this heartwarming tradition, bringing their commitment to community service to the forefront of the holiday season.
Leading the charge today was Brother Anthony and his family, later joined by Will Bryan, who cheerfully greeted passersby and jingled the bell, spreading festive cheer and collecting donations for the worthy cause. Earlier in December, Brother Lewie had the honor of kicking off the Masons’ involvement, lending his time and good humor to the Red Kettle effort.

This partnership blossomed thanks to the tireless efforts of Captain Ann Hawk of the Salvation Army. While flipping burgers at the Warren Coalition’s “Celebrate Kids Day” event, Captain Hawk struck up a conversation with Lewie, recognizing him from their shared experiences in both the local Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and, last winter, volunteering at the Thermal Shelter. Recognizing the Masons’ dedication to serving others, Captain Hawk extended an invitation for them to take the reins of the bell ringing, an invitation readily accepted by the lodge.
With their unwavering dedication and cheerful spirits, the Masons are ensuring that the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign echoes through Front Royal, spreading the message of hope and generosity during this special time of year. Every clink of the bell represents a step towards helping families in need, a testament to the power of community and the unwavering commitment of the Unity Lodge No. 146 to making a difference in the lives of those around them.
So, if you happen to be strolling through Front Royal this holiday season, be sure to lend an ear to the cheerful clang of the Salvation Army bell. You might just catch a glimpse of a Mason or two, ringing in hope and sharing the spirit of the season with every jingle. Their dedication serves as a reminder that the true magic of the holidays lies not in gifts under the tree, but in the simple act of giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.
