Celebrating Our 179th Grand Master of Virginia Masons, Most Worshipful Gary Dwight Huffman

This past Saturday marked a significant moment for Virginia Freemasonry as Most Worshipful Gary Dwight Huffman was installed as the 179th Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free, and Accepted Masons of Virginia. The installation took place during the Grand Annual Communication in Richmond—a momentous and traditional gathering that unites brothers from lodges across the Commonwealth.

Unity Lodge No. 146 proudly represented at the Grand Annual Communication, with many of our brethren attending to support and witness the installation of our new Grand Master. Our delegation included the Lodge’s Master, the District Deputy Grand Master (DDGM) of District 3, Junior Warden, Chaplain, Marshal, DDGM of District 5, and our most recently raised brother, who had the memorable opportunity to shake the hand of the outgoing Grand Master, MW Jack Kale Lewis. MW Lewis took a special interest in the journey of our newest Mason. Each year, the Grand Annual Communication provides a unique opportunity to connect with fellow Masons statewide, reflect on our shared values, and reaffirm our dedication to fellowship and brotherhood. For those who have not yet attended, the experience is beyond words and one every Mason is encouraged to experience.

While the ceremony was indeed memorable, the fellowship outside of formalities was just as meaningful. Throughout the weekend, brothers from Unity Lodge No. 146, along with members from far and nearby lodges, came together to share meals and camaraderie at local spots like Plaza Azteca, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Tipsy Crab, First Watch, and Rosie Connolly’s Pub Restaurant. Although we couldn’t get a table at Havana 59, some of us enjoyed a quiet moment with cigars, making for a perfect cap to an unforgettable weekend.

MW Huffman’s brass pin is especially notable, featuring the square and compasses over the Maltese cross known as a symbol of the fire service, along with a “Forget-Me-Not” flower and the phrase “Faith, Truth, Harmony”.

Congratulations once again to Most Worshipful Gary Dwight Huffman on this esteemed appointment. May his term bring wisdom, unity, and growth for all Virginia Masons. Here’s to a prosperous year ahead, strengthened by the bonds of our fraternal brotherhood.
