Building Community, One Meal at a Time

This Thanksgiving, the bonds of brotherhood and community were on full display as Unity Lodge No. 146, Lafayette Lodge No. 137, and other local organizations came together to bring warmth, food, and fellowship to the W. Luray Recreation Center. Among the highlights was the contribution of So Mote It Beef BBQ, the BBQ team of Unity Lodge No. 146, led by the Worshipful Master. The team lovingly prepared and donated smoked turkey and ham, adding to an extraordinary feast shared by seniors, families, leaders, and friends from all walks of life.

The evening was nothing short of miraculous, as described by the event’s host, Audre King:

“Last night was a miracle! A miracle that we had exactly enough food, a miracle that we found enough space, a miracle to see so much love in one place at one time!”

The Worshipful Master expressed the team’s gratitude for the opportunity to serve:

“We continue to build on tradition by building community—one event, day, kind word, or act of service at a time. For all those who joined us for the first time or came back to enjoy this evening for a second or third year, may God bless you all.”

The event was a shining example of unity, with contributions from a wide range of community groups and individuals. From smoked turkey and ham to 300 pieces of chicken provided by VFW Comer-Jones Post 621 and pies lovingly baked by members of the Order of the Eastern Star, every dish carried the spirit of giving.

The evening left a lasting impression on many attendees, including the Marshal of Unity Lodge No. 146, who reflected:

“Wow. Just wow. What I’ve seen here tonight. Community. Seniors, families, leaders, and friends all gathering together from all walks of life to share a meal. Good music, a positive atmosphere, and a few meaningful conversations. I came to volunteer, but I got more in return than what I had to offer.”

A True Community Effort

Audre King shared a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who made the event possible, recognizing an incredible list of individuals and groups that gave their time, effort, and love to make the evening a success. From local churches like Grace Fellowship and Iglesia ER to volunteers, bakers, and organizers, every contribution reflected the strength of a united community.

Tradition and Brotherhood in Action

For Freemasons, this event underscores the deep connection between tradition, service, and community. Building on a legacy of charity and fellowship, events like this embody the values we strive to uphold: kindness, generosity, and unity.

Whether you attended for the first time or have been part of this tradition before, Saturday night was a reminder of what makes the Shenandoah Valley such a special place: the spirit of togetherness and the willingness to come together to serve others.

As we reflect on the success of this year’s Thanksgiving event, let us continue to build community and live by the principles that unite us as Freemasons and neighbors. Thank you to everyone who made this event a blessing for so many.

A Look Back

For those who joined us this year, and for those who cherish memories of past gatherings, take a moment to reflect on last year’s event. Maybe you’ll see a familiar face!
