Yesterday, our immediate past master shared a heartfelt memory on Facebook about the inception of “So Mote It Beef BBQ” (SMIBB). This incredible non-profit BBQ team has become an essential part of our community and Lodge, raising over $80,000 to support local charities and events over the past six years.
At SMIBB, many of our lodge members actively participate in the preparation and serving of meals, showcasing the Masonic spirit of service and brotherhood. And the best part? The potential to reach even more people in need is still ahead of us.
SMIBB’s founder, Will, is the proud owner of a custom-made trailer complete with several BBQ grills and sinks, proudly displaying the emblem of Freemasonry. The team’s next big event is their annual Christmas Hams, Turkey Cooks, and Whole Brisket fundraiser on December 21 and 22. This event promises to help bring holiday cheer to families in need.
One of the most recent community efforts was the delivery of over 450 meals for Thanksgiving at the Luray Rec Center. But SMIBB’s charitable efforts don’t stop there. They travel far and wide, supporting veterans, first responders, law enforcement, seniors, and children’s programs such as Demolay, the Luray Rec Center, and the annual Youth Football camp with the D.C. Divas.
Their slogan, “Making good meat better,” mirrors our Masonic principle of “Making good men better,” as both emphasize growth, service, and making the world a better place.
Join us in supporting this incredible team as they continue to serve, one meal at a time. Together, we’re not just cooking—we’re making a difference.
