rented off x. x. xxxxxxxx for $75.00 per Annum. In 1875, the Odd Fellows entered into a joint agreement with Unity Lodge for the use of this room, sharing the rental thereof.

It is interesting to not that Unity Lodge held forty-four meetings in the year 1870, from March 25th to the end of the year, during which time seventeen applicants were raised to the degree of Master Mason and secured an additional fifteen by affiliation. In the following year, thirty meetings were held, eleven members were raised and four gained by affiliation, making a grand total of forty-seven in a twenty-one month period.

Unity Lodge No. 146 A.F.&A.M. operated under a dispensation from Grand Lodge until the third of December, 1870, when Most Worshipful Brother x. x. xxxxxxxx, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the State of Virginia, signed the Charter of Unity Lodge, which was presented to the membership, December 24th, 1870 by Brother x. x. xxxxxxxx.

A Warrant issued by Grand Master x. x. xxxxxxxx, bearing the date of January 3, 1871, under the seal of the Grand Lodge of Virginia and addressed to Right Worshipful x. x. xxxxxxxx. D.D.G.M., of District No. 18, directing him to install and set to work the Worshipful Master and Wardens of Unity Lodge No. 146, agreeably to the customs and usages of Ancient York Masonry.

At a Special Communication held in Front Royal, Virginia, on Wednesday evening, January 18th, 1871, the first officers of Unity Lodge No. 146, were elected and installed as follows:

The first Masonic funeral of record by Unity Lodge was conducted the 8th of March 1871, when the remains of Brother x. x. xxxxxxxx were deposited in mother earth with proper Masonic observance.

The Lodge meetings varied from one to two stated communications each month as the by-laws were changed from one to the other, the first meeting in each month being held on the first Friday
