Website History

In January 2006, a website was setup for https://www.unity146.org. Over the years the website has gone through many significant changes. Trestle Board newsletters were composed electronically and also made available on the lodges website after being sent via the postal service.

Some of the screen shots taken below are from the Internet Archive’s “Way Back Machine”. They may not fully reflect the website in its entirety at the time as there are often missing images, web frames, and other resources.

Social Networking

In November 23, 2010, a public Facebook page was setup Facebook.com/UnityLodge146.

Activity on the page fell to occasionally posts during holidays since July 2015. No more posts were seen for years after January 2017 until November 13, 2022. The next posts started appearing regularly in June 2023.

On November 5, 2021 a private Facebook group was created for Unity Lodge No. 146 members and fellow masons.

Go Daddy

On September 6, 2011, the website appears to have been hosted on GoDaddy.com, Inc with a free starter web page.

Google Sites

In December 2012 Trestle Board, the Master’s Message had hopes that a new website would be launched in January of 2013. The earliest snapshot in that period is from April 30, 2013 and shows that it was hosted on Google Sites at the time. It was a web-based tool that was part of the “G Suite” (Now known as Google Workspace) productivity tools, making it accessible for individuals and organizations with varying levels of technical expertise. It offered seamless integration with other apps such as Google Drive for file storage, and Google Calendar for event integration.

New Webmaster

In the October 2018 Trestle Board, it was announced that Brother Robert “Bob” Nickols was taking over the website. He was able to give the site a clean makeover that didn’t appear to be a generic template from Google Sites, which did well for many years.

WordPress

Starting in May 11, 2023, Brother Lewis Edward Moten III became the webmaster and with the assistance of Worshipful Master Will Bryan, moved the sites content to be hosted on WordPress, a popular content management system (CMS). The existing photo gallery was converted to blog posts describing details of what was happening during various events. Articles were written to explain the significance of images. Some Facebook posts were migrated onto the website as well.

In December 2023, the Trestle Board newsletters were also copied to be hosted on the new content management system. Additional trestle board newsletters were acquired from various sources to improve the collection. Microsoft Word files were converted to Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files for better accessibility. Content was then copied from the PDF files and converted into individual posts such as Master’s Messages, Secretary’s Messages, calendar events, stated meeting agendas, Royal Arch Chapter updates, the Temple of the Eastern Star messages, and upcoming Grand Master Official Visits. This made it easier to search and read on both desktop and mobile devices.

December 30, 2023 the Centennial Observance booklet was digitized and made available on the website.
