Commandery

Emblem of the Commandery

The Commandery is a Masonic appendant body that is part of the York Rite of Freemasonry. It is also known as the Knights Templar Commandery or simply the Knights Templar. The Commandery degrees are considered a continuation of the Royal Arch degrees within the York Rite.

The Knights Templar is a Christian-oriented fraternal organization that draws inspiration from the medieval Knights Templar, a military order founded during the Crusades. The Commandery confers degrees that are based on chivalric and Christian themes, and its rituals include elements of symbolic and allegorical teachings.

Members of the Knights Templar are known as Sir Knights, and their regalia includes distinctive uniforms and insignia. The Commandery is the final body in the York Rite, following the Royal Arch Chapter and the Cryptic Masonry.
